One morning, a shadow refuses to rise with its owner. It leaves a note on the bed: "Taking a day off. Back by dusk." The owner walks through town sunlit and exposed. Without the shadow, there is nowhere to hide. Strangers see every twitch of hesitation. At dusk, the shadow returns, carrying souvenirs from alleys and under benches. It claims the sidewalks needed someone to keep them company. They agree to alternate vacations from now on.
